Retail energy suppliers exist and are available to utility customers in states where the energy market is deregulated. This means that there is a choice of purchasing electricity or gas (or both) from a competitive retail energy supplier.
When you choose another retail energy supplier, or we have chosen one for you through our Smart Rate program, your utility is still responsible for the transmission and distribution of energy, maintaining the grid, and taking care of outages and customer service issues. The retail energy supplier is responsible for producing and selling the energy commodity that supplies the grid.
Our Smart Rate program is available to members in Illinois, Ohio, New Hampshire, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York.
